CompTIA RFID Cybercast Series
CompTIA is pleased to present a comprehensive RFID cybercast series. This four-part series will
feature experts exploring a range of RFID focused topics. The Web-based cybercasts will cover
impact of RFID on the systems integrator market and predicted growth, how to make physics
work for you when implementing RFID, success factors and pitfalls for successful implementation,
and an end user's experience with implementing RFID in their company.
Greg Dixon, Chief Technology Officer for ScanSource
"Tagged for Change - The RFID Market Revolution"
The impact of customer-mandated RFID on the market and delivery channels

Abstract:
Adapting to changing technology is nothing new. Organizations adapt to change, but at their own
pace. RFID is different in the respect that customers such as Wal-Mart and the U.S. Department
of Defense are mandating that their suppliers adopt RFID. The rules driving adoption have
changed, and these mandates will propel and fuel the market for RFID products and services,
creating both opportunities and challenges for the delivery channel to keep pace with demand. In
this CompTIA Cybercast, Greg Dixon, CTO, ScanSource, will discuss the opportunities and
challenges that lay ahead. You will learn about the coming growth curve in RFID and how it will
impact the delivery channel.
ScanSource is the leading distributor of data capture and automated identification products. In his
role as Chief Technology Officer, Greg oversees the technical support services provided by the
company, and develops and manages strategic technological initiatives for ScanSource
customers. Dixon has 27 years of experience in the technology arena. He is seen as an industry
expert and has been a featured speaker at many industry events over the years. Most recently,
he helped develop an in-depth vertical market initiative for ScanSource called Solution City.
Today, he leads the RFID strategic initiative for ScanSource, Inc.
Patrick Sweeney, President and CEO, ODIN Technologies
"How Physics Can Solve Your RFID Puzzle"
Using physics to make RFID work in the real world

Abstract:
Many end users just starting out with RFID face difficulties right from the beginning. They blame
poor performance on immature equipment and believe a common misconception that the physics
of RF present the biggest barrier to an effective RFID solution. There is no doubt that the
challenges of liquids, metals, refraction, collision and environmental interference cause frequent
RFID deployment headaches. However, there is science behind each of these challenges. Far
from being a barrier, the physics of RFID are the key to designing and implementing an optimal
solution.
In this CompTIA webinar, ODIN technologies CEO Patrick Sweeney will go beyond RFID 101 and
explain what you really need to know about RFID before you deploy it. Patrick is the author of the
forthcoming book, RFID for Dummies, and is a frequent speaker on RFID noted for his ability to
make the technology understandable to both technical and non-technical audiences. He founded
ODIN technologies in 2002 and has already established it as the industry leader in the physics of
RFID implementations. Some of ODIN technologies' RFID clients include Colgate-Palmolive,
American Power Conversion, Hormel and the Department of Homeland Security.

Abstract:
It's okay to learn from mistakes, but it's preferable to learn from someone else's mistake. There
is a great deal you can learn from the mistakes and successes of early RFID deployments.
In this CompTIA webinar, ODIN technologies CEO Patrick Sweeney will discuss 5 critical steps
that every end-user must address to successfully deploy and operate an RFID system. Patrick is
the author of the forthcoming book, RFID for Dummies, and is a frequent speaker on RFID noted
for his ability to make the technology understandable to both technical and non-technical
audiences. He founded ODIN technologies in 2002 and has already established it as the industry
leader in the physics of RFID implementations. Some of ODIN technologies' RFID clients include
Colgate-Palmolive, American Power Conversion, GTSI, Hormel, and the Department of
Homeland Security.
Rich Morrissey, Director E-Business Strategy, American Power Conversion
"Getting Ready for RFID - The User Speaks"
An end-user shares his experience in readying his company for RFID
Cybercast Date and Time:

Abstract:
There are many opportunities to hear RFID vendors and consultants talk about what you need to
do to get ready for RFID. It is rare to hear from the actual end customer and learn from their
experience. Rich Morrissey, Director eBusiness Strategy, American Power Conversion (APC),
was charged with preparing his company to comply with customer RFID mandates for January
2005. In this cybercast, Rich shares his own case study of APC's RFID pilot test experience and
lessons learned in the process. You will learn and benefit from hearing directly from the end user.
Rich Morrissey is the Director of Worldwide eBusiness Development for American Power
Conversion Corporation (APC). APC, headquartered in West Kingston, RI, is a global leader in
the manufacture and delivery of power availability solutions protecting home and corporate
environments. With 25 years of experience working in the high tech industry, Rich has served as
Director at APC for the past five years, leading the strategy, design, development and implementation of
electronic business enabled solutions with their global customer and supplier trading partner
community, as well as internal business processes. He is also serving as the program manager
for projects such as RFID, Web Self-Service and Sarbanes-Oxley Act Operations compliance.
