EIDX Glossary of Terms

Gateway - Link between several computers in a network setup, or a connection between two networks which allows messages on one to be routed through to the other.  Gateway functions typically include choreographing of mapping (translation), enveloping or de-enveloping, logging of transmission activity, and communications software functions.

Generic Data Element - See qualified data element.

Granularity - a small unit, one of many that comprises a larger unit. Commonly used to signify the size of a unit, as in a reference for content granularity as opposed to URL granularity on the Web.

Guideline - A piece of information intended to advise people on how something should be done or what something should be; a statement or other indication of policy or procedure by which to determine a course of action.   EIDX and EDIFICE write guidelines for how to interpret utilize eBusiness standards that are relevant to our constituent industry segments.
