CompTIA EIDX B2B Content Standards: Open Applications
Group Integration Specification (OAGIS)
The Open Applications
Group Interface Specification (OAGIS) is a widely accepted standard
within the supply chain domain that specifies a standard way of
passing data in and out of applications using an XML format.
Under the OAGIS standard, related information is bundled into a
structure called a Business Object Document (BOD). There are over
120 BODs published.
The Open Applications Group is a non-profit consortium focusing
on best practices and process based XML content for eBusiness and
Application Integration. Major vendors of ERP software and
some large users of such software are among the members of OAGIS.
OAGI does not specify an implementation architecture (also called
an implementation framework). Three major B2B implementation architectures
have been developed to this day: RosettaNet's RNIF, Microsoft's
BizTalk, and the vendor-neutral ebXML Transport and Routing Specification.
They provide the basis for interoperability between different vendor
and home-grown solutions alike. The OAGI policy is to be technology
sensitive but not specific, and to use existing open standards when
possible.
Locate OAGIS Version 7.1 BOD Documentation
You do not need to be a Open Applications Group member
in order to access and download published Business Object Document
(BOD) specifications, including XML DTD's and Schema. We are
unable to link directly to individual BODs because they are contained
in zip files. Likewise, we don't try on this Web site
to keep track of the status and versions of BODs.
To access a BOD:
1. Understanding what a BOD identifier
represents.
- A BOD number has 3 parts: a number + a verb + a noun +
a version. Example: 003_process_po_007.
- The three-digit number is just a number - each new BOD gets
the next available number. BOD 003_process_po_007 is BOD
number 003.
- The verb identifies the service that
the BOD performs. S4_AppendixE.doc contains descriptions
of all the verbs. BOD 003_process_po_007 performs a "process"
service.
- Example: "The PROCESS verb is
used to describe specific processing in a more fine grained
manner beyond add, change or delete processing"
- The
noun identifies the target object of the service, such as a purchase
order (PO). The object being processed in BOD 003_process_po_007
is a Purchase Order.
- The
version is the revision number of the individual BOD (as opposed
to the version number of the collection of specifications).
BOD 003_process_po_007 is the 7th
revision of that BOD.
2. Logon to the OAGI
Web site
3. On the menu, click Free Downloads
4. Select the appropriate version. For example,
OAGIS 7.2.1 Documentation.
5. You will be asked to provide name, organization, e-mail
address, etc. This will not be used to send you junk
e-mail, but helps OAGI get visitor demographic and interest information.
6. You can choose to download a zip file containing Microsoft
Word® documents or PDF documents. Download the zip file and
extract the files to the directory of your choice.
7. You may also wish to download XML documents. To
do so, click :
The XML Resources Download page.
8. Select the appropriate BOD. In the specification
file S1_Cover.doc or S1_Cover.pdf, you'll find a table listing the
BODs. Locate the specification file for the BOD. For
example, if you want 003_process_po from the version 7.2.1. specification,
look for the file S3_003_process_po_007.doc or S3_003_process_po_007.pdf.
