Replenishment Scenario IV
Forecast-based Supplier-Managed Inventory (SMI), Version 1.0

Business Overview
Buyer sends consumption plan containing gross requirements (planned consumption), inventory levels, and min/max inventory targets. Receipt data sent by buyer so seller can calculate in-transit quantities (embedded Receipt Advice). Seller nets forecast data to determine replenishment requirements based on buyer's inventory levels and min/max targets. Seller may send replenishment plan to buyer, which conveys planned shipments so buyer can evaluate the plan. Buyer may use plan for other purpose, such as anticipating receiving workload.

Narrative

Step Description
1. Buyer generates Consumption Plan per Forecast/Planning Model 3. Seller generates response if needed.
2. If supplier determines that replenishment is required during the current planning cycle, buyer invokes Order Model 3B - Release Against Blanket Purchase Order, Supplier-Managed.
3. If changes from a previous plan are within acceptable tolerance for change, seller generates plan for future replenishment. Seller sends replenishment plan to buyer (optional) per Forecast/Planning Model 4; this is optional because buyer may not require that the replenishment plan be sent. The buyer responds to the replenishment plan if needed.
4. Prepare for the next cycle of preparing and generating Consumption Plan. If there are changes arising out of a supplier's response to Consumption Plan or a buyer's response to the replenishment plan, they are dealt with during this activity, then the next generation of the SMI starts again with 'Generate Consumption Plan.'
